General

Consistent with the Norwich PAL philosophy, we offer Basketball, Baseball, and Soccer for area youths. In the spring we offer baseball for boys and girls ages 4 to 14, and soccer for girls ages 8 to 13. In the fall we run a full soccer league for boys and girls ages 5 to 13. During the winter we run our basketball program for kids ages 5 to 7. Detailed information about each league may be found below.

Basketball

The PAL basketball season begins in mid January and runs for 8 consecutive Saturdays. There are no weekday practices required. All sessions take place at Huntington School and are one hour in duration. Game schedules are usually structured as follows:

  • 5 Year Olds 9:00am and 10:00am
  • 6 Year Olds 11:00am and 12:00pm
  • 7 Year Olds 1:00pm and 2:00pm

Baseball

The PAL baseball season runs from late April through June. An extended all-star season for Senior League players PONY League as well as a fall baseball league for Pony League players are available. Our newest program Pee Wee Baseball, initiated in 2006, has been a great success with strong reviews from parents who have actively joined in with their child in this fun and instructional introduction to baseball.

Registration for PAL baseball begins in February. New coaches and volunteers are always needed. Please indicate interest on the registration form, or contact a PAL Board member for more details on how to become involved.

PEE WEE T-Ball: an instructional program for 4 yr olds only. Geared towards fun and learning the basic fundamental mechanics of baseball this program requires that a parent be present and work with the children at stations designed to keep the children focused on a specific task of hitting, throwing, fielding, and running bases.

T-BALL: is designed to get youngsters 5 and 6 years of age accustomed to the basic skills and rules of baseball. FUN is stressed throughout the season.

MINORS: Youngsters 7 and 8 years of age progress to a slightly more advanced game. Players are pitched to by a pitching machine. Again, the basic skills and enjoyment of the game are stressed.

JUNIOR: For children 9 and 10 years of age. For the first time players face a true pitcher. More advanced rules and skills are inroduced through teamwork. Sportsmanship is always stressed.

SENIOR: For young men and women 11 and 12 years of age. A true game of baseball where all the rules and advanced skills are taught. All players on a PAL team play during games helping to teach sportsmanship, cooperation and teamwork.

PONY: Athletes ages 13 and 14 play in a competitive league where advanced skills are taught without losing the joy of playing the game of baseball.

What is Pony Baseball?

Soccer

The Spring Soccer League runs from late April through June. The Fall Soccer League starts in late August and runs through October. PAL Soccer is divided into five leagues.

MICRO: a co-ed league serving children ages 5 and 6. In this league children have fun while learning the fundamentals of soccer.

MINI: a co-ed league for athletes ages 7 and 8. Children play 6 on 6 games. Player enjoyment is the major emphasis of this league. Children learn soccer skills and rules through teamwork.

JUNIORS: Girls and boys ages 9 and 10 play in separate leagues. Athletes play on fields which are somewhat smaller than official soccer fields. Teamwork and fun are still the major emphasis of the Junior Leagues.

SENIORS: Girls and boys play in separate leagues. Athletes play on regulation size soccer fields. Teams play 2 games a week. Athletes enjoy themselves as they develop advanced soccer skills as they compete against other teams in the league. Teamwork and sportsmanship are emphasized.

SPRING SOCCER: GIRLS JUNIOR LEAGUE (ages 8-10) and GIRLS SENIOR LEAGUE (ages 11-14) Teamwork, learning soccer skills and merriment are league goals.
